No need to chase rainbows when you can get married right beside one, with a cascading waterfall as your backdrop. Skogafoss is known to be one of the largest waterfalls located in Iceland, with a height of 60 meters and width of 25 meters. Located on the Skoga river and around Iceland's South coast, this waterfall often shows beautiful double rainbows and can be seen from Iceland's route 1. The site also includes a long staircase leading to a magical view that overlooks the waterfall. A lot of photos are taken at Skogafoss waterfall, nearby is the Golden circle route, a long route that extends for 300 km / 186 miles, starting in Iceland's capital Reykjavik and driving into the southern uplands, and returning to Reykjavik.

Westfjords may be a longer drive since it’s located in the secluded northwest corner of Iceland, however the divine scenery justifies the long journey. The Westfjords are mountainous and feature steep hills which face the east coast of Greenland. This is truly a backdrop to hosting a serene wedding or elopement. It can be described as one of the hidden gems of Iceland because of its beauty and is around 282km/ 175miles away from Reykjavík.

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, (Kirkjubæjarklaustur), southeast of Reykjavik

Justin Bieber used his ‘’I’ll show you’’ music video to truly show us the beauty of this unique Icelandic site. This ancient and massive river canyon contains cool rivers that are more for display than to actually swim in, as they are extremely cold. 

After tourist numbers spiked exponentially for the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, the site does close from time to time, so it’s important to check ahead for availability.  Overall, the site is filled with a lot of nature and green grass views from all angles. The canyon is located in the southeast of Iceland, near the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, and is around 248km/ 154 miles from Reykjavík.

This site is located around the south east coast of Iceland, close to the tiny fishing village of Vík í Mýrdal.

America’s popular TV show ‘’Game Of Thrones’’, which has acquired over ten million views, has used many Icelandic locations to film in, including Iceland’s Vatnajökull. Vatnajökull is a large ice cap that features different glaciers, so you can go hiking, ice caving, along with taking a boat tour. This large ice cap is located 320ks/200 miles from the country's capital city, Reykjavík.

What is the best time to elope in Iceland?

Iceland has the best weather in the summer months. Visit in the months of June, July and August to get maximum sunshine hours and experience warmer days. Trails and other outdoor amenities are also open at this time of year.
